DIXON, Calif. — Four passengers were injured and an Amtrak employee was hospitalized after a train bound for Sacramento was struck by a truck Sunday afternoon, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.

The collision happened as Amtrak train 736 crossed Fry Road in Dixon around 5 p.m. Sunday, Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero said.

Romero said witnesses reported a furniture truck went around the safety gates at Fry Road and hit the moving train in the dining car area.

An Amtrak employee was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. Four other passengers were treated on the scene, Romero said. The condition of the driver was not immediately known.

The train was en route to Sacramento and was next planned to stop in Davis when the crash happened.

Romero said another train was expected to arrive Sunday evening to pick up the stranded passengers.
