GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Amtrak has resumed its “Empire Builder” passenger train service along northern Montana after snow had blocked tracks last week.
The passenger railroad says westbound service resumed Monday, and eastbound service resumed Tuesday.
The train runs between Chicago and Seattle, with several stops in North Dakota.
Service was interrupted when two avalanches derailed part of a freight train last Wednesday afternoon. It happened on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe main line that also is used by Amtrak.
Amtrak says improved weather and operating conditions have allowed service to resume.
