Amtrak’s Boardman defends need for long-distance routes at Congressional hearing

The operation of long distance trains is a “core federal responsibility” and a federally funded national rail system is the best way to keep operating costs low, Amtrak President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Boardman told a congressional committee on May 21.
