WASHINGTON, D.C. ‚ Amtrak, the U.S. long-distance passenger railroad, will replace the entire fleet of train sets used on its Acela service in the Northeast U.S. after scrapping plans to buy more passenger cars. The taxpayer-supported railroad plans in early 2013 to issue a “request for information” from companies that could supply the equipment, according to a statement released today. Acela’s current trains were made by Bombardier Inc. (BBD/B), based in Montreal, with Alstom SA (ALO), based in Levallois-Perret, France.
