PHOENIX, Ariz. — Arizona lawmakers are giving a go-ahead to a bill to require new state reviews of new railroad projects.
The mandate would apply to a new switching yard, which Union Pacific plans to build in southern Arizona.
The state Senate gave the bill a 17-7 endorsement on a preliminary vote Tuesday.
The Senate’s action came more than a month after the last movement on the bill, which was sidetracked for weeks with other non-budget measures.
