NEWARK, Ark. — Train tracks in Newark are now clear after a derailment that left three locomotives and five railroad cars off the tracks.

The Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad train had a three-man crew, but no one was hurt.

Grain spilled from one car and some diesel spilled from a locomotive. No hazardous cargo was aboard.

The train had departed from Batesville and was bound for the Newport-Diaz junction.

After the train jumped the tracks, the crew notified a dispatcher of the accident. But, local officials say they were not notified of the derailment early Monday. Newark Police Chief Tom Tilley says he didn’t know about the wreck until he got to his office Tuesday morning. The police department is just a few feet from where the train left the tracks.
