LEAVENWORTH, Wash. — A Chumstick Valley man allegedly confronted four railroad workers with an assault rifle Tuesday night north of Leavenworth, and fired shots attempting to detain them. Chelan County sheriff’s deputies said James Carl Brown, 44, displayed an M4 rifle as a Burlington Northern Santa Fe crew used a private driveway to reach a railroad crossing construction site about 10:43 p.m. He allegedly told the crew they were on private property, and fired three to five shots into the ground in front of their Freightliner truck as they attempted to leave.
