COLUMBUS, Ga. — A young Army Captain has lost his legs after trying to board a moving train in Columbus.
A police report shows 27-year-old William Keating was injured early Friday morning.
Witnesses told police that the Fort Benning soldier from Euless, Texas, attempted to climb a ladder on a boxcar of a Norfolk Southern train as it passed by.
They said the soldier lost his footing and fell on the roadway before a train car used to haul wood chips struck him, severing both legs.
Keating was rushed to the Medical Center in critical condition.
He is a student with the Maneuver Center Career Captain Course at Fort Benning.
