OMAHA, Neb. — Lee Wesley Gibson had plenty of exciting experiences in his 38-year career with Union Pacific. As a coach attendant and later a Pullman porter, he took care of big-name passengers like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, traveled the country and saw plenty of history being made — his stories are about moments like watching Jackie Robinson steal home at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. He took home enough money to build a comfortable life and take care of his family and his health; at 101 years old, he’s the second-oldest living Pullman porter.
