RIVER EDGE, N.J. — Authorities have identified a woman was fatally struck by a New Jersey Transit train, a wire service reports.
Debra Kropfl, 23, of River Edge, was struck around 6:10 a.m. Tuesday by train 1600 on the Pascack Valley Line. Anna Farneski, a spokeswoman for NJ Transit, said Kropfl was standing in the middle of the tracks as the train approached.
“All precautions were taken,” but the engineer was unable to stop in time, Farneski said. It was the eight death involving NJ Transit trains statewide this year.
The Hoboken-bound train had departed from Spring Valley, N.Y., and 210 passenger on board when the accident occurred. All service on the line was suspended for about an hour, and buses were sent to the scene to transport passengers to Hoboken.
