WASHINGTON, D.C. — Betty A. “Billie” Lubetski Child, 60, a former office administrator for the national legislative office of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, died of lung cancer Jan. 5 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.
Mrs. Child was a native Washingtonian and graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy in 1962. She went to work at the union as a secretary and retired 34 years later as office administrator.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed boating, fishing and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite pastime was cooking.
Her first husband, James Andrew Burton Sr., died in 1968. Her son, James A. Burton Jr., died in 1992.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Girard. H. Child of Arlington; a daughter, Barbara Ann Burton of Reston; two sisters, Henrietta Cooke of Suitland and Frieda Malone of White Plains; two brothers, Michael Lubetski of Waldorf and Raymond Lubetski of Brandywine; and two grandchildren.
