The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) National Division today applauded the bipartisan reintroduction of the Railway Safety Act (RSA) in the United States Senate.

The legislation is being led by Senator Jon Husted (R-OH) and Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA). Original cosponsors include Senators Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), John Fetterman (D-PA), and Bernie Moreno (R-OH).

BLET National President Mark Wallace and First Vice President Gary Best recently met with Senators Husted, Cantwell, Baldwin, Klobuchar, Fetterman, and Moreno to discuss the urgent need for strengthened federal rail safety standards and greater accountability across the industry.

“Senator Husted and Senator Cantwell deserve tremendous credit for leading this bipartisan effort to advance meaningful rail safety reform,” said President Wallace. “The strong group of original cosponsors from both parties reflects broad recognition that rail safety must remain a national priority.”

Wallace also acknowledged Vice President J.D. Vance’s prior leadership on the issue.

“Vice President Vance sponsored this legislation during his service in the United States Senate, and we appreciate his continued support in seeing it reintroduced,” Wallace said.

The Railway Safety Act represents a bipartisan commitment to improving oversight, enhancing safety standards, and ensuring accountability throughout the rail industry.

BLET will continue working with Senator Husted, Senator Cantwell, and the bill’s original cosponsors to secure passage of this critical legislation.
