Kat Bisbikis, National President of the BLET Auxiliary, said that copies of the Auxiliary’s new railroad survival guide, “Taking Charge,” remain available to BLET members and Divisions.
Unveiled earlier this summer at the BLET Eastern Regional Meeting in Daytona Beach, the booklet explains in detail what every railroad family should know in the event of a tragedy. The booklet provides a means to organize and document a family’s most important financial and insurance/benefit information.
President Bisbikis addressed BLET members during the morning session of the Western Regional Meeting on August 19. She was joined on stage by fellow Auxiliary national officers Rachel Pharris (1st Vice President), Jodi Wallace (Secretary), Chris Baldwin (Treasurer), and Natalie Miller (National Legislative Representative).
“Too often, we hear from families who are overwhelmed in their hardest moments, when a spouse passes unexpectedly, and their loved ones don’t know how to access benefits, bank accounts, or even unlock a phone. No one should ever have to take their spouse’s phone to a morgue because it requires a fingerprint to unlock,” Bisbikis said. “This guide solves those problems. It organizes the easy questions and the hard ones, so whether it’s you, your spouse, or your children who need the information, it’s all in one place.”
Bisbikis said all 75 copies that were brought to the Daytona Beach meeting were given out within a day, and that the Auxiliary has received requests for more than 400 additional copies from BLET Divisions across the country.
Those interested in a copy of “Taking Charge” should email Auxiliary Secretary Jodi Wallace, jwallace.bletaux@yahoo.com, or visit the Auxiliary website: www.bletauxiliary.net.
