The BLET, in conjunction with the Teamsters Rail Conference, is working the halls of Congress to garner additional bipartisan support for H.R. 5475, the “No Tax on Overtime for All Workers Act,” which would provide rail workers with tax exemptions on their overtime pay.
Mark Wallace, BLET National President and President of the Teamsters Rail Conference, said that BLET and Teamsters Rail Conference representatives have been meeting with U.S. Senators to advocate for the introduction of a companion bill in the Senate. If passed into law, the bill would expand on previous legislation to grant tax exemptions on overtime pay to BLET members and all other workers governed by the Railway Labor Act. Rail workers would be able to deduct up to $25,000 of overtime pay from their annual income for tax purposes under the proposed bill.
BLET is working with the Teamsters on a “Take Action” plan for members to contact their member of Congress to cosponsor H.R. 5475. That “Take Action” alert should be activated this week. Stay tuned to the BLET’s social media networks.
