The BLET Education & Training Department conducted two Zoom-based Secretary-Treasurer refresher training sessions December 16-18 to help subordinate officers prepare for end-of-year requirements and to provide instruction for a new payroll application that will launch on January 1.

More than 110 Secretary-Treasurers from BLET Local Divisions, General Committees of Adjustment, and State Legislative Boards participated. Sessions were offered at different times to accommodate Secretary-Treasurers’ work schedules and multiple time zones.

“This is the third consecutive year we’ve hosted these refresher sessions via Zoom due to strong participation and consistently positive feedback from Secretary-Treasurers,” said BLET National Secretary-Treasurer David Estes, who oversees the Education & Training Department.

The sessions provided a comprehensive review of year-end reporting requirements and compliance deadlines. A significant portion of the training focused on the transition of all subordinate payrolls from UnionTrack to the BLET’s new web-based payroll application, which goes live January 1. Additional information will be distributed to all Secretary-Treasurers ahead of the launch.

In addition to NST Estes, training was led by Megan Mead, Director of the Record and Compliance Department; Walt Schmidt, Director of Online Services; Luke Myers, Director of Bylaws Administration; Kimm Bunch, Government Relations Specialist; and Rich Bartela, BLET Special Representative and Auditor. During the Tuesday session, National President Mark Wallace and First Vice President Gary Best addressed the class, providing updates on the tentative national contract and the UP-NS merger while answering questions from members.

NST Estes said a full schedule of Education & Training Department courses for 2026 will be posted in January. Watch the Recap and UnionTrack for details.
