SANTA TERESA, Texas — On a recent train ride to Santa Teresa, passengers learned the importance of safety around the tracks from a female engineer.
The railroad cross buck warns people about a 125 and 225 ton locomotive but sometimes people are reckless and create a dangerous situation on the tracks.
Locomotive engineer Debra Barnett volunteers with Operation Lifesaver, a program dedicated to informing people about railroad safety.
“We have a message for everyone from grade school to defensive driving to first responders and it’s the awareness of being safer on the train tracks,” Barnett said.
