CLEVELAND, August 26 — Donald B. “Scott” Little, 60, of Marengo, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

(Brother Little was a Metra locomotive engineer who served the Brotherhood as Legislative Representative of Division 294 in Bensenville, Ill. He first joined the union on June 1, 1976.)

He was born July 10, 1949, in Escanaba, Mich., the oldest son of Donald E. “Scott” and Mary Lee (Gallagher) Little. On Aug. 10, 1979, he married Judith K. Arnholt in Glen Ellyn.

He was raised in Roselle and graduated from Lake Park High School. In 1969 he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was a locomotive engineer for Metra for 35 years.

His life was characterized by devotion to family and service to community. He was particularly dedicated to veteran’s organizations and the Lion’s Club, giving many hours of his service. He and his wife also hosted several children from Northern Ireland through a peace organization.

In 1990 he and his wife built their home in Marengo, doing much of the work themselves. Over the years, the home became a showcase for their many talents, as well as a warm and welcoming gathering place for family, friends and neighbors. When not working on their home, he and his family enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judith; his children, Kelly Lee (Rick) Burke, David Paul Little, Lauren Little and Shannon (Patrick Ford) Little; his grandchildren, Hillary Elizabeth and Alec David; his step-grandchildren, Ashley and Kathleen Burke; his mother, Mary Lee Little; his siblings, Michael (Nancy) Little, Patricia Hoffmann, Stephen (Vicki) Little, Joseph Little, John (Leslie) Little, James (Sharon) Little and Terry Little; his mother-in-law, Clara Arnholt; a brother-in-law, Jim Terwilliger; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his brother, David.

The visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Highway, Marengo.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo.

Interment will be private.
