CLEVELAND, November 2 – BLET members are urged to contact their U.S. Senators today and ask them to support the Lott-Lautenberg amendment (#2360) to the Budget Reconciliation being considered tomorrow.
S. 1516, the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2005, was added to the Budget Reconciliation in the form of an amendment. This important amendment would provide long-term funding for Amtrak.
It is imperative that the Senate pass some form of Amtrak reauthorization this fall in order to protect the carrier from attacks by the Bush administration. The addition of this language to the Budget Reconciliation will accomplish this goal.
