CLEVELAND, August 16 — Members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen are asked to support Local 17 of the International Union of Operating Engineers by boycotting the Adams’ Mark Hotel in Buffalo, N.Y.

BLET National President Don Hahs received a letter from leaders of the Operating Engineers earlier this month asking for assistance in their struggle to obtain their first contract at the hotel.

“The Adams’ Mark Hotel and its ownership have a long history of being anti-union and anti-worker,” said Mark N. Kirsch and Edward R. Hoock Jr. of the Operating Engineers in their letter to President Hahs.

The Operating Engineers first organized the hotel’s staff more than six years ago. However, the hotel’s management has not bargained in good faith and has violated the National Labor Relations Act during the negotiating process. Management broke off negotiations in April of 2003 and has not returned to the table since. Members of the Operating Engineers have picketed the hotel ever since on a regular basis.

The Buffalo area AFL-CIO, as well as the national AFL-CIO, have sanctioned the boycott.

BLET National President Don Hahs asks all BLET members to show support for the Operating Engineers Local 17 by honoring their boycott of the Adams’ Mark Hotel.
