CLEVELAND, October 23 — The BLET’s District of Columbia State Legislative Board will host its Third Annual Locomotive Engineers Exposition tomorrow in the Starlight Room at Union Station, Washington, D.C., from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The purpose of the exposition is to create a one-day forum where locomotive engineers and rail labor members can interact and obtain useful information from BLET, Amtrak, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), state agencies, and others.
More than 300 locomotive engineers and rail union members have attended the past two expositions. This year, representatives from the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED), will also participate through their membership in the Teamsters Rail Conference.
The focus of this year’s exposition is education. The National Labor College will be the featured exhibitor along with the FRA and the Transportation Security Administration.
“We are witnessing first-hand a sea of changes underway at Amtrak,” said Herbert Harris Jr., D.C. State Legislative Board Chairman. “One of our best defenses against future uncertainty is to be better prepared and educated and more vigilant on the issues that affect our livelihoods and families”
A special exhibit area will also be designated to support rail labor solidarity. Any rail labor union will be able to use the exposition as an outlet for distributing information to its members.
The District of Columbia State Legislative Board is the only BLET State Legislative Board comprised entirely of passenger and commuter locomotive engineers, representing members from Amtrak, MARC and VRE.
