SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Following advice from doctors, BMWE President Mac A. Fleming will be taking an extended medical leave of absence, beginning July 2, 2003, which is expected to last through December, 2003.

During his absence, BMWE Secretary-Treasurer Freddie N. Simpson will assume the position of Acting President and BMWE Executive Board Chairman Perry K. Geller will serve as Acting Secretary-Treasurer in accordance with the international union’s constitution and bylaws.

“On behalf of all BMWE officers, members and friends, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mac Godspeed with his return,” said Acting President Simpson.

The Southfield, Michigan-based union represents approximately 40,000 workers who build and maintain the track and structures on railroads throughout the United States and Canada.
