CHICAGO — Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., the second largest U.S. railroad, on Tuesday said quarterly profits rose 24 percent on double-digit increases in revenue in three of its four business groups.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based company said net income increased to $430 million, or $1.13 a share, in the fourth quarter, from $347 million, or 91 cents, a year ago.
Wall Street analysts predicted earnings per share of $1.15, according to Reuters Estimates.
