TOWER CITY, N.D. — A BNSF Railway train hauling Wyoming coal derailed here, dumping 29 fully loaded coal cars on the west end of town.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the cars jumped the tracks at about 2:55 p.m. The 122-car train was traveling east from Spring Creek Mine in Wyoming to Superior, Wis., he said.
“There were no injuries or hazardous materials involved,” Melonas said. The cause of the derailment was not known, he said.
A crew of about 50 workers was being sent to the scene Wednesday.
“The line is expected to reopen” this afternoon, Melonas said.
Cleanup could take about three weeks, Melonas said.
