CRAWFORD, Neb. — No one was injured after four loaded cars from a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad train derailed near here shortly after midnight Thursday, the Associated Press reported.
The cars tipped, spilled coal and blocked another main line for a short time.
The cause of the derailment was not immediately known, railroad spokesman Steve Forsberg said. Preliminary evidence indicated one of the wheels on a coal car locked up, he said.
The train crew was alerted to the derailment by an electronic detector that prevented the accident from being much worse, he said.
