SEATTLE — A freight train derailment blocking both tracks heading to Everett Station will prevent the northbound Sounder train from traveling to Edmonds or Everett this evening.

The derailment occurred about 1:30 p.m., when three locomotives from a Tacoma-bound BNSF train loaded with cars slipped off the track, said Gus Melonas, a BNSF spokesman. One of the locomotives leaned onto another train car that was sitting idle on the adjacent track.

No injuries were reported, and the cause is still being investigated, Melonas said.

Between 100 and 150 passengers typically take the evening northbound Sounder train from Seattle, but Sound Transit officials say they are directing passengers to bus service heading to Edmonds and Everett.

For Everett travelers, passengers are advised to take Sound Transit’s 510 or 513 routes. Edmonds passengers should ride Community Transit’s 404 and 416 routes. Additional buses are being added to each route, said Lee Somerstein, a Sound Transit spokesman.
