HELENA, Mont. — BNSF Railway says its track 45 miles east of Libby is likely to reopen at midnight, about 18 hours after a derailment.
Ten cars in a train hauling corn from Minnesota to the West Coast derailed early this morning.
The disruption meant passengers on the Amtrak train that crosses northern Montana on trips between Chicago and Seattle had to ride buses for about 250 miles, between Libby and Shelby.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says no one was injured in the derailment, and its cause wasn’t known immediately.
He says one car loaded with 110 tons of corn lost part of the grain. Melonas says corn on the ground was being vacuumed, so it wouldn’t attract wildlife.
