WILLISTON, N.D. — Officials say about 25 cars on a BNSF train carrying corn derailed west of Williston in below zero temperatures. No one was hurt.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the derailment happened along the North Dakota-Montana border around late Sunday night, about 20 miles west of Williston. He says crews worked throughout the night on cleanup and hope to have the track open again Tuesday.
Amtrak also uses the track and Amtrak passengers will be bused around the site during cleanup, Melonas said.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation but the weather has not been ruled out, Melonas said. The temperature was about 15 below zero at the time of the derailment, he said.
The train was en route from Minnesota to Washington state, Melonas said.
