HANNIBAL, Mo. — Recently, in cooperation with the Hannibal Regional Hospital (HRH), Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad at West Quincy, hosted a Health Fair for all BNSF employees in the area including train crews, maintenance of way, bridge and buildings, yardmasters, switch crews and clerks. In addition, crews from Galesburg, Ill., and Brookfield were also invited to participate.
Hannibal Regional Hospital offered the following screenings and tests: Cholesterol screenings, including HDL, LDL, Triglycerides and High Sensitivity (CRP) blood pressure checks, glucose screenings, metabolic blood testing, pulmonary function screening and physical fitness assessments, which included percent of body fat, cardiac step test, grip strength and flexibility. Educational displays by various HRH departments, including the Nutrition Center, Cardio Pulmonary Department and the HRH Rehabilitation Center were set up and staffed for viewing and discussion.
Also attending West Quincy’s Health Fair were representatives from AirVac Ambulatory
Helicopter Services, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Operation Lifesaver Department, B.N.S.F. Chicago Division Safety Coordinator for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the United Transportation Union, plus various other local BNSF supervisors and departments. Health and Safety pamphlets and information packets were distributed to all parties attending.
A healthy breakfast and lunch menus were organized by the Hannibal Regional Hospital Nutrition Department and were prepared and served by BNSF employees.
Employees that participated in the testing and screenings were eligible for a drawing for a family membership at the local YMCA and other prizes.
