So far, so good for BNSF Railway Co’s Powder River Basin (PRB) coal traffic this month.
Through Oct. 15, the railroad’s daily loadings averaged 52.6 trains compared with 50.5 trains during the same 2006 period. Loadings remained slightly ahead of the monthly record of 52.4 trains set in September.
Year to date through Oct. 15, BNSF loaded a daily average of 49.8 trains in the PRB compared with 49.3 trains during the same 2006 period. Systemwide, BNSF loaded 228.2 million tons of coal, a 1.6 percent increase year over year.
