(The following report appeared on Montana’s News Station website on December 5.)
BILLINGS, Mont. — BNSF is the state’s lone provider of rail shipping services. Because of this, Montana farmers and ranchers are concerned about BNSF setting its own rates.
For its part, BNSF claims it generally charges the same rates across the nation.
In an effort to increase communication, the railway has announced it plans to partner with the agriculture industry to form a business council that addresses local transportation needs.
BNSF says meetings should begin in February 2008, with meetings scheduled twice a year.
