NEW YORK — The derailment of a locomotive and 10 coal cars from a track undermined by high water flow on the Yellowstone River had a “minimal impact” on coal loadings, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. said late Tuesday.
No injuries were reported when the train derailed at 1:15 a.m. Monday.
A railroad spokesman said coal loadings were promptly rerouted and a temporary track was built around the washout on Tuesday.
The train was en route to Superior, Wis., when it derailed near Forsyth, about 100 miles northeast of Billings.
