GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The Grand Island City Council seemed OK Tuesday night with a BNSF railroad agreement aimed at helping the railroad install a second mainline next to the existing elevated rail through Grand Island.

A BNSF official told city council that there would be no new traffic through town as a result of the double-tracking. The second track would simply relieve a 10-mile bottleneck through Grand Island that causes trains to be stopped while waiting for other trains to cross.
