BISMARCK, N.D. — The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad wants to abandon about 50 miles of track in North Dakota, the state Public Service Commission says.
Commissioner Tony Clark said the railroad is proposing to abandon stretches of track between Langdon and Hannah in Cavalier County; between Souris and Westhope in Bottineau County; between Walum, in Griggs County, and Dazey, in Barnes County, and smaller sections near McCanna, in Grand Forks County, and near Zap, in Mercer County.
Clarks said shippers and others can protest the abandonment to the federal Surface Transportation Board. To be eligible for abandonment, he said, the track must have been out of service for two full years.
