EDWALL, Wash. — The main railroad between Seattle and Spokane is back open, following a derailment.
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train jackknifed on a side rail line early Wednesday, blocking the main tracks.
Railroad spokesman Gus Melonas says the tracks were reopened at 2:20 p.m.
Melonas says 17 empty cars derailed at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday as the train bound for Seattle was pulling out of a siding at Edwall. There were no injuries. The cars remained upright. Nothing hazardous spilled.
About three dozen people and equipment from Pasco worked to re-rail the cars, and crews are expected to continue working through the week to repair about 1,000 feet of the side tracks.
