WASHINGTON, D.C. — Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. spent more than $1.1 million in the first quarter of the year to lobby on legislation dealing with the railroad industry’s antitrust exemptions and other issues
The railroad operator also lobbied on legislation dealing with the security, delivering coal and climate change, according to the form posted online April 21 by the House clerk’s office. The Fort Worth, Texas-based company spent more than $3.1 million to lobby the federal government in 2007.
Lawmakers are considering legislation, which is supported by a coalition of more than 3,500 electric, utility, chemical and manufacturing companies, that would subject railroads to stiffer antitrust standards.
Besides Congress, BNSF lobbied the Surface Transportation Board.
