FORT WORTH, Texas — The BNSF Railway spent $1.5 million on lobbying in the first quarter of 2011. It was the most of any Berkshire Hathaway unit. The railroad lobbied regarding railroad antitrust rules, requirements for positive train control systems, greenhouse gas regulations and fines imposed for inadvertently transporting drugs into the country. BNSF spent $1.3 million on lobbying in the first quarter of 2010 and more than $1.1 million in 2010’s fourth quarter.
