CHICAGO — Train traffic through Lisle was temporarily halted on Thursday after a construction crew struck a gas line.

According to a press release from the Lisle Police Department, a construction crew working at 1111 Burlington Ave., near the train tracks in Lisle struck a gas line at about 10:15 a.m.

While a NICOR maintenance crew and the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department worked to fix the line, no inbound or outbound train traffic on the Burlington/Northern Santa Fe Railway Chicago to Aurora line through Lisle was permitted, said Sgt. Ron Wilke, spokesperson for the Lisle Police Department.

The line was repaired and train traffic resumed at 1:45 p.m. Wilke said.

Train traffic was halted to prevent any sparks from a passing train from igniting the gas in the air, according to a press release
