RHAME, N.D. — Authorities say a broken rail apparently caused the derailment of 10 cars of a 64-car Burlington Northern Santa Fe train about two miles northwest of Rhame.

No one was hurt in the 5:45 a.m. derailment Friday.

The freight included United Parcel Service shipments, bottled water and vehicles, one of which was thrown from a rail car. Bowman County Emergency Manager Dean Pearson said no hazardous material spilled.

The derailment caused minimal impact, said Gus Melonas, a BNSF spokesman. The line has Reopened, and service has been restored, he said. The cause is still under investigation.
