FRIDLEY, Minn. ― A rail worker was killed after being struck by a Northstar Commuter Rail train headed into the Twin Cities Wednesday morning.

The train struck a BNSF Railroad employee in between the Northstar line’s Coon Rapids and Fridley stations.

The worker was struck at about 7:45 a.m.

According to Bob Gibbons with Metro Transit, rail service was disrupted.

Between 150 and 200 people were removed from the train and put on buses to finish their trip to downtown Minneapolis.

Authorities have not yet said why they believe the worker was struck.

Gibbons said this marks the first accident in the nine months Northstar has been in operation.
