GALESBURG, Ill. — Carl Ice, BNSF Railway’s president and chief operating officer, said business last year was up 4-5 percent on the system. He said at the high point in 2006, the railroad shipped about 220,000 units daily, units being everything from box cars and coal cars to grain hoppers. At the low point in 2009, the number dropped to about 155,000. He said last year, there were a few days where the numbers were back up to more than 200,000.
