JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A pair of Amtrak trains were delayed and homes surrounding a rail yard were evacuated for about two hours after a suspicious package was found aboard a tanker car filled with diesel fuel, the Associated Press reported.

A railworker found the package attached to the rail car at the CSX rail yard in Jacksonville late Sunday afternoon, officials said, forcing two trains to be stopped about one mile from the station.

One of the trains was Amtrak’s auto train, which had left Sanford about an hour earlier and was destined to arrive in Lorton, Va. at 8:30 a.m. today, officials said.

The other train had left Orlando Sunday afternoon, beginning a three-day trip which is scheduled to end Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.

After the package was determined to be harmless, both trains resumed their trips and residents were allowed to return to their homes around 7 p.m., said CSX Corp. spokesman Adam Hollingsworth.
