MONTREAL — Bombardier Inc., the largest maker of passenger trains, and France’s Alstom SA won a $204-million contract to supply trains to Switzerland’s national railroad, the National Post reports.
Bombardier, based in Montreal, and Alstom, a Paris-based engineering company, expect to deliver the 10 trains by 2004. Bombardier’s share of the contract is about $160-million, the company said in a release.
On December 21, Bombardier and Siemens AG, Germany’s largest electronics and engineering company, won a $261-million train contract from Germany’s state-owned railway.
Earlier this month, Bombardier and Alstom competed for an order from France’s state-owned railway operator, which Bombardier won. The Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français contract is valued at US$1.48-billion.
Bombardier’s widely traded Class B shares rose 1¢ to $15.21 in Toronto. Alstom shares were unchanged at 12 euros ($16.90) on the Paris stock exchange.
