MONTREAL, — Bombardier Inc. (Toronto:BBDb.TO – news) said on Tuesday that it had obtained $58 million of North American orders for its bi-level commuter rail cars over the past few weeks, reports a wire service.

Bombardier, the world’s largest passenger train maker and No. 3 manufacturer of civil aircraft, said the orders came from four transportation authorities. They were North San Diego County Transit District, Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority, San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission and Fort Worth Transportation Authority.

The contracts total 12 cab cars and 18 coaches to be made at Bombardier facilities in Thunder Bay, Ontario and Barre, Vermont. Deliveries are scheduled for 2003.

Bombardier’s class B shares slipped 53 Canadian cents, or 3.7 percent, to C$13.67 at mid-morning in Toronto on Tuesday.
