MONTREAL — Bombardier Transportation says it will deliver 54 more double-deck, German-made rail cars to Israel Railways in an order worth $94 million (U.S.).
The new order brings to 147 the number of double-deck cars bought by Israel Railways, 89 of which have been delivered, Montreal-based Bombardier (TSX: BBD.B) said today.
The new cars are to be delivered between December 2005 and mid-2006.
The new 47 intermediary coaches and seven cab cars will be mainly made at Bombardier’s factory in Gorlitz, Germany. Some of the final assembly, including installation of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, as well as the seats, will be carried out in Israel.
“In view of the very hot Israeli summers, the new double-deck cars will feature powerful air-conditioning systems,” Bombardier said in a release. Twenty-nine of the cars will be equipped with special ramps and large and easily accessible lavatories for passengers in wheelchairs.
More than 1,500 of Bombardier’s double-deck rail cars units have been bought by several operators, including German State Railways, Danish State Railways and Israel Railways. Similar cars are also on order for Luxembourg Railways.
On the Toronto stock market early today, Bombardier Inc. shares rose five cents to $4.19.
