MONTREAL — Bombardier Transportation said Monday it has won a $47-million contract to deliver six more double-deck trains to Israel and will make them at a plant in Germany, the Canadian Press reported.

Bombardier said the order from Ports and Railways Authority-Israel Railways (Tel Aviv) is for four-car, air-conditioned trains — each consisting of one power car and three trailer cars — to be delivered in early 2004 for service in Tel Aviv.

That brings to 23 the number of double-deck trains ordered by Israel Railways, with 14 already delivered.

The new trains will be made and assembled at Bombardier Transportation’s site in Gorlitz, Germany. And in Israel, Bombardier is co-operating closely with local subcontractors.

Bombardier Transportation is a division of Bombardier Inc., maker of business jets, regional aircraft, rail transport equipment and motorized recreational products. Based in Montreal, the corporation has a workforce of 80,000 people in 24 countries.

On the Toronto stock market early Monday, Bombardier class-B shares (TSX: BBD.B) rose 44 cents to $5.94.
