BOULDER, Colo. — A Northwest passenger rail line being considered for revival should run through Boulder, city officials urged Tuesday.
The Boulder City Council late Tuesday unanimously approved sending a letter to Amtrak officials asking them to consider sending the Pioneer line — which ran from Seattle to Denver through Greeley until 1997 — through Boulder, instead.
Amtrak is considering reviving and possibly changing the route.
Mayor Matthew Appelbaum wrote in the letter that Boulder’s voters have demonstrated, through their support for the FasTracks ballot initiative, that they want to see rail come to town.
The Boulder Transit Village is envisioned to be a multi-modal transportation hub surrounded by mixed-use commercial, retail and residential developments, he wrote. Including the Pioneer service on the menu of transportation options available there will only further enhance this vision.
