(The National Transportation Safety Board issued the following news release on December 5.)

WASHINGTON — National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Mark V. Rosenker has appointed Brenda Lee Yager Director of Government and Industry Affairs. In this position, she will serve as the primary liaison to Congress.

“Ms. Yager enjoys a tremendous amount of respect and credibility on Capitol Hill and brings nearly three decades of legal expertise and state and federal government experience to this position,” said Chairman Rosenker. “She is a great asset to the Safety Board and an excellent advocate for transportation safety.”

Ms. Yager, an Illinois native, joined the Safety Board in 2000 as the Director, Transportation Disaster Assistance. She oversaw the Board’s emergency family assistance responses, managed the application process for the awarding of education credits at the NTSB Training Center, and worked on the outreach programs at the Training Center.

Prior to coming to the Safety Board she was the Legislative Counsel for the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs State of Illinois, Washington, DC. She also served as Deputy Director for the agency.

Prior to her work with the state of Illinois she was Assistant Administrator for Government and Industry Affairs for the Federal Aviation Administration, and Legislative Counsel to Ambassador-at-Large, U.S. Department of State, along with other positions in federal government.

She started her government career as a Legislative Assistant and later Committee Counsel to Congressman Tom Railsback of Illinois.

Ms. Yager has a Jurist Doctorate from DePaul University, College of Law, and was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for Northern District of Illinois. She is also a graduate of Brown University, (M.A.) Providence RI; and Augustana College, (B.A.) Rock Island, IL. She also studied at the London School of Economics and the College of William and Mary.
