NEWARK, N.J. — Despite Hurricane Sandy temporarily holding down travel on the Northeast Corridor, growth elsewhere on Amtrak led to the 10th ridership increase in the past 11 years on the national passenger rail system, Amtrak’s president and CEO said Monday.

The Northeast Corridor, which includes New Jersey, New York City and the high-speed Acela Express service, remains Amtrak’s dominant route, accounting for 11.4 million of the nation’s nearly 31.6 million riders, up from about 31.2 million in fiscal 2012.
