NEW YORK — A building collapse caused Metro-North Railroad to temporarily cancel service into and out of Grand Central Station Friday afternoon, resulting in delays during rush hour.
Service was shut down for about an hour before being restored at about 4:20 p.m. with 45-minute delays, according to Marjorie Anders, a spokeswoman for Metro-North.
After a building partially collapsed in Harlem, police asked the commuter railway to shut down power on all four tracks entering the city while crews cleaned up the scene.
Even after power was restored, the railway was asked to observe 15 mph speed restrictions through the building collapse area, Anders said.
She expected service to return to normal at about 5 p.m.
The building, located at 118th Street and Park Avenue, collapsed shortly after 3 p.m. No one was injured or trapped, according to Amanda Schmidt, a spokeswoman for the New York City Fire Department.
