WASHINGTON –President Bush’s 2.9 trillion dollar budget blueprint includes an 800 million dollar subsidy for Amtrak.
That amount is 500 (m) million dollars less than the federal government spent on the passenger railroad last year.
Congress is likely to freeze Amtrak spending for 2007 at 2006 levels.
Another 100 (m) million dollar would be set aside in the president’s budget as matching grants that states could use for intercity passenger rail projects.
